Baker at Center of Free Speech Supreme Court Case Speaks Out

Right now, we are in the middle of one of the most important battles for religious liberty our country has ever seen. On December 5th, the Supreme Court began hearing opening arguments in a case which pits a Christian baker from Colorado against a gay couple who tried to hire him to decorate a cake for their wedding.

Jack Phillips – the baker in this case – refused to decorate their cake, arguing that using his talents to promote a gay wedding would go against his religious beliefs. The gay couple sued Mr. Phillips, and now the case has made it all the way to the Supreme Court.

While this issue may have all started with a cake, the case it has created is now monumental and will no doubt play a role in our country’s protection of religious liberties for years to come. The question the court must answer is whether or not an artist can be forced by the state to create works of art which go against their religious beliefs in the name of inclusion and anti-discrimination.
