Climate Change Scientists Try to Trigger Mass Hysteria with New Report

Is life on Earth about to go extinct?

That’s the contention of a group of scientists who have co-authored papers discussing Earth’s “Sixth Mass Extinction Event,” which they claim is already underway due to overpopulation and consumption of natural resources. Perhaps unsurprisingly, however, as with the global warming crowd, there’s much debate over the evidence being used to support their assertions. Think about it — when have we heard this story before?

While it’s true that the Earth’s population (currently approximately 7.2 billion) continues on an upward trajectory, it’s also true that if you spread out the entire population of the Earth as far and as widely as you could on the planet’s habitable land masses, each human would have 2.5 acres of land to farm, hunt or otherwise extract resources from for themselves. And that’s just considering land, not the oceans or the air, which contain billions of fish and birds as well as water that’s able to be processed for drinking.

The fact of the matter is that if the oceans alone were handled the right way (presently they’re not), they could support a population of 10 billion people or more just with fish for food (which also incidentally would allow for greater lifespans). If there currently are any problems of resources, they have more to do with people’s tastes than anything else.

The truth is, we have a very efficient way of dealing with resource-driven problems — it’s called free-market capitalism. And right now, markets have set food prices in America as some of the cheapest in the developed world.
