Don’t get annoyed, Floyd!
That might be what the hosts of media program Hollywood Unlocked were hoping as world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather explained his take on the behavior of President Trump and how people respond to the businessman-turned-world leader in public situations. Mayweather makes some excellent points, the chief of which is that, although it might be politically incorrect to do so, he feels that Trump is an “honest” person with his talk and his actions — meaning that Trump doesn’t attempt to pretend to be someone that he’s not. As Mayweather says, sometimes Trump’s behavior isn’t always pretty, but what you can say about it is it’s real.
As an example, Mayweather cites the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape, in which Trump was talking candidly with show host Billy Bush (nephew of former President George H. W. Bush) about members of the opposite sex. Thanks to an undercover microphone and the indiscretions of NBC broadcast executives, we all are now privy to what Trump said, but as Mayweather explains, this was never meant to be a public conversation.
Mayweather further makes a point about celebrities and the public eye in that, normally, what someone says to someone else behind closed doors is a privileged conversation. But when a celebrity says something in confidence, everyone feels they have a right to invade that person’s privacy.
As one of the most successful boxers of all time (Mayweather’s undefeated record of 50-0 fights won topped heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano’s tally of 49-0 set in 1955), Mayweather has had his share of ups and downs; he knows a little something about the travails of fame and politics. Watch, as his perspective in this uncensored clip is a valuable one.
