NJ Bar Boycotts NFL, Holds Fundraiser for Veterans Instead

A New Jersey bar figured out a way to shut off the Sunday NFL games and have an even bigger crowd than usual show up. Woody’s Roadside Tavern in Farmingdale held a fundraiser for local veterans’ charities and ended up having a much busier day than usual.

The NFL has been embroiled in controversy all year as the multimillionaire players throw a public temper tantrum by “taking a knee” during the national anthem. The fans are obviously disgusted and the ratings prove that. Viewership for NFL double headers, for example, are down more than 20 percent over last year. Attendance at many stadiums has tanked as well.

It turns out that the viewers and fans of the NFL don’t appreciate the players calling them racists while disrespecting the flag, the US Constitution, our veterans, or the opportunity to play a kids’ game for salaries that most Americans can only dream about.

Woody’s Roadside Tavern decided to hold the fundraiser for veterans’ groups after a patron pitched the idea to the owners. As it turns out, the idea was incredibly popular. Some veterans drove for several hours to attend the event and the owners say checks are still arriving in the mail from all over the country in support of vets.

One of the most amazing moments during the event was when the standing-room-only crowd joined together to sing the Star Spangled Banner. Needless to say, none of the patrons at Woody’s “took a knee.”
