President Trump Says He Might Legalize Marijuana

During the run up to the 2016 presidential election, the issue of legalizing marijuana took center stage. Many conservative states appeared to favor a crackdown on those that broke the federal ban against recreational pot smoking. Several liberal states had already loosened restrictions and some have outright made weed legal.

In this Newsmax TV report, host Joe Walsh is joined by Reason Magazine columnist Jacob Sullum in an eye-opening debate about Pres. Donald J. Trump’s policy position on legalizing marijuana. Reason Magazine is a popular Libertarian publication following the issue and has been ranked among the country’s top 50 magazines.

During the election debates, Trump appeared to discourage enforcement at the federal level. Like many rights and powers, Pres. Trump favored each state having the authority to leave the matter to their respective voters.

Current polling shows that even in states that oppose legalization, a majority of voters feel this is a state and not federal issue. However, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been the proverbial fly in the ointment of the marijuana issue and he and the president may not see eye to eye.

In this Newsmax TV debate, Walsh and Sullum cover the complicated state and federal laws that surround the massive marijuana industry. How would changes to federal oversight impact minors, trafficking across state lines, banks that lend money and taxation?
