Sanctuary Cities Experience Higher Crime Rates

Is it really a big surprise? The city of Phoenix dropped its status as a sanctuary city nine years ago, and lo and behold — crime is down substantially!

The fact of the matter is that illegal immigration goes hand in hand with crime, and even when they’re deported, criminal aliens often turn out to be repeat offenders, in some cases reentering the U.S. after they’ve been kicked out multiple times.

In many sanctuary cities such as San Francisco, this has been a deadly pattern, as the family of Kathryn Steinle tragically discovered when their daughter was murdered by a repeat offender, illegal immigrant drug addict, who fired a gun at a tourist attraction on the city’s waterfront. Despite the House of Representatives passing a law named after Steinle targeting aliens on June 29, San Francisco continues to cling to its sanctuary status.

Criminal gangs such as the deadly El Salvador-originated MS-13 group, which recruits and is composed of many illegals and has a significant presence in Los Angeles, are another reason to do away with sanctuary cities.

It’s exactly these issues that President Trump’s proposed southern border wall is designed to tackle. That measure, combined with more extreme vetting procedures and tougher border security will help ensure that the U.S. becomes a safer place to walk urban streets. Of course, as long as there are sanctuary cities, those federal efforts will be hindered, but if the government withholds funds for such cities, perhaps more of them will follow Phoenix’s example.

Watch as Fox’s Tucker Carlson vociferously debates the topic with Enrique Morones, the founder of the pro-sanctuary group Border Angels.
