Shadow Government Growing. Trump Needs to be Very, Very, Careful

Ever since Donald Trump announced he was running for president, he’s been dogged by an enemy that’s less than visible and less than accountable to the American public: The Deep State.

What is The Deep State, you might ask?

As journalist Glenn Greenwald reveals in this interesting clip, The Deep State is a collection of federal agencies and departments that have established their own power base and entrenched infrastructure that’s only vaguely threatened by transient presidential administrations — even if they end up lasting for a whole eight years.

So implacable and self-sustaining are these bureaucratic structures that they’ve become a major danger to democracy itself. Organizations such as the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency have their own priorities, their own goals, their own rules and their own veteran hierarchies that are only just barely accountable to the president or in many cases, even to Congress.

One only has to recall how many presidents feared longtime FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover to be reminded that there’s a framework within government that goes beyond simply who’s elected. Watch as Glenn Greenwald tells viewers how The Deep State is working to undermine President Trump.
