Something’s Fishy with Rep. Wilson’s Accusations against Trump over Call to Slain Soldier’s Wife

What’s the old saying about good deeds not going without punishment?

President Trump must be re-learning that one now that Democratic Congresswoman Frederica Wilson of Florida has accused him of disrespecting the widow of Green Beret Sergeant La David Johnson.

Johnson was one of four special forces soldiers killed in an ambush in the African country of Niger earlier this month. Trump, who had called Johnson’s widow Myeshia to pay his respect to the fallen soldier, was accused by Congresswoman Wilson (who was in a car with Myeshia at the time of the call) of being insensitive to the serviceman’s death via his words.

It’s these specific words that Trump claims he never said — along with a previous (and incorrect) statement that former President Obama never called relatives of fallen soldiers — that have landed Trump in hot water with the media and the Democratic Party. But as the hosts of Fox & Friends confirm with conservative author and Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro in this clip, there’s more to this story than meets the eye (or ear, as it were, in this case).

For starters, there’s the fact that colorful-cowboy-hat-wearing Congresswoman Wilson is one of the more vocal critics of President Trump in Congress, calling for his impeachment and claiming that he needs psychological help. Second, there’s no released recording or transcript of the phone call in question — so how do we really know what was said?

Watch, as the always-sharp Shapiro helps the gang on Fox & Friends get to the bottom of this communications conundrum.
