Trump’s New Chief of Staff Tells WH Staffers to Put Country before the President

Just where do staffers’ loyalties in Trump’s White House lie?

That’s a giant-size question that Fox’s Lou Dobbs has for Washington Times Editor Charlie Hurt and Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway in this probing clip, which examines recent statements by new Trump White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Kelly was apparently quoted as saying that the priorities of “the country” should come before those of the president, and that makes you wonder just who’s in charge at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue — and whose orders staffers are expected to follow.

While it’s a good thing that Kelly is attempting to clamp down on the leaks that have been damaging President Trump’s image and credibility for the last six months, questions about loyalty and whose side people are on continue to plague the administration.

Meanwhile, in the Senate, McConnell should take much of the blame for the recent failure of the attempted repeal and replacement of Obamacare that he and other Republican Congressional leaders have been promising for the last seven years. It’s they — not the president — who originally committed to voters to rid the nation of this defective, taxing legislative affliction that, like some cancer chemotherapy treatment, is turning out to be worse than the condition it was designed to fight.

President Trump was fully correct to call up McConnell and blast him for this embarrassing failure to enact one of the key agenda items of his administration. If Republicans can’t get this job done with a majority in both the Senate and the House, it may be time to replace those leaders who can’t perform and solidly support the president in this and other capacities. Watch as Dobbs makes a case for McConnell’s resignation from a leadership position.
