One of the consequences of the tax bill that recently passed is that it shows just how high the taxes are in Democrat run states. By getting rid of the ability for individuals to deduct their state taxes from their federal taxes, some people in states such as California and New York will actually see their taxes go up in 2018 due to the enormously high state taxes they are forced to pay. For those living in these deeply blue states, these high taxes aren’t sitting well, and the result is that they are leaving in droves.
Of course, this exodus from blue states started long before tax reform was passed. Even when individuals in these states where able to deduct their state income taxes, the high tax rates, high unemployment rates, and lack of positive changes that their tax dollars were supposed to be buying have lead people in those states to relocate in record numbers.
In the near future, it’s likely that this migration from states such as Illinois, California, and New York will only increase. Whether the individuals relocating from these states will continue to vote Democrat and ultimately change their new homes into a copy of the one they left is yet to be seen. What we do know for now, though, is that Democratic policies are leading to an exodus of historic scale, and this is a trend that is almost guaranteed to continue.
