Americans Report Feeling More Divided than Ever

When President Obama first took office, he said he was ushering in a time of hope and change. That he would bring the country together following eight years of President George W. Bush.

The real fact of the matter is none of this really happened. When looking at all of the promises Obama made during the campaign, the only one he actually kept was to fiddle with insurance, which actually has had disastrous results.

So, maybe it is best that he didn’t really do anything for eight years, because who knows what kind of problems we’d have right now. But when it comes to whether or not the United States is more divided as Obama leaves than when he entered, the only real answer most people can give is yes. It is far more divided.

When you get right down to it, race relations now are far worse than the situation eight years ago. In fact, this is probably the worst it has been in 50 years.

What about bringing Republicans and Democrats together? That hasn’t happened either. In fact it is again at a nearly all time low. Yes, Democrats and Republicans are not always going to see eye to eye. Each wants what they believe is best for the country, even if the other side doesn’t believe that is the case. But it is the responsibility of the President not to have a hissy fit and refuse to work with the other side of Congress. He needs to bridge the gap.
