Who really is running the country?
That’s the question that documentary and film director Oliver Stone asks in this probing clip with Fox’s Tucker Carlson. When the government’s intelligence agencies are so openly hostile to the president, making accusations that are not based on any evidence, one has to ask what the motivation is.
As Stone reiterates, even former President Obama ended up reversing his stances on matters such as closing the American prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and sending troops to Afghanistan. Clearly, this was at the prodding of the intelligence community and the military-industrial complex — what some like to label (along with a lot of other Washington bureaucracy) “the Deep State.”
One can also make the claim that President Trump has reversed his stances on certain matters such as the recent sending of more troops to Afghanistan (where U.S. troops have now been stationed for nearly 16 years), arms deals for Saudi Arabia and Qatar and a recommitment to the NATO alliance. Are these policies the result of Trump’s own decisions, or are they coming at the “request” of unelected entities and people?
Certainly, since the Saudi arms deal was announced (which could end up sending some weapons to ISIS via the Wahhabist kingdom), one-time Trump critic Senator John McCain, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has been far more quiet about his disapproval of Trump.
