In his commentary for the Baltimore Sun, Anjali Dassarma wrote that “Settling for Biden” is the “moral dilemma of a Biden presidency.”
Once a parody, the motto “Settle for Biden” has become for many progressives says Dassarma, a painful reality.
Dassarma, progressive hater of all things Trump, warns his fellow leftists aren’t buying they must vote for Joe Biden. He writes, “Mr. Biden must understand that he is not entitled to anyone’s vote. Running an election based on being the ‘anti-Trump’ is frustrating true progressive Americans.”
Many progressives have been quick to label the “Settle for Biden” website a parody, but others say the campaign is “forthright” and give it “points for being honest.”
Ever since Democratic presidential candidate Sanders failed again to secure the party’s nomination, many Bernie Bros, as they have been dubbed, have been outspoken about their disappointment in the DNC making Biden their presumptive nominee. Nearly all have said they aren’t enthusiastic about voting for the former VP. Many have said they aren’t willing to vote for him. Remember in 2016 10% of Bernie Bros didn’t vote for Killary and instead voted for Trump, a stat that shocked experts on both sides of the political aisle.
Sanders has given his former opponent lengthy endorsements in a bid to combat the lack of enthusiasm for Biden, claiming he would be the “most progressive president since D. Roosevelt.”
One Tweet summed up the campaign best, saying, “I respect that they’re being forthright … instead of gaslighting and pretending Biden’s any good. I’m not voting for him …”
Watch the video below of The Hill’s hosts Krystal and Saagar offer their thoughts on the grassroots organization, Settle for Biden, created by former Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren supporters. Their commentary on this subject really strikes a cord with people on both sides of the aisle.
