“Admit nothing, deny everything, and make counter accusations.” This is the mantra of the Democratic Party and we have seen it again and again in the news media for years. There is absolutely nothing new about the kind of attack that Judge Brett Kavanaugh has faced lately. The Democrats have been doing it for decades.
The only difference nowadays is that the lies and smears are reaching viral audiences on social media. New dynamics in the ways people form political alliances have been transformed by the Internet, making it so much easier for people to coalesce into increasingly disparate groups.
The good news is that more people are engaged in the political process than ever. The bad news is that at least half of those people are motivated by extremely low-quality news stories that they get just snips of clips of from platforms like Twitter.
The weakness of the second group is that they are easily controlled. Their arguments are exceedingly easy to knock down. Of course, they turn violent as soon as that happens- so there’s that.
