Unlike former President Obama, whom many have accused of being one of the primary sponsors of ISIS when he funded Syrian “moderate rebels” during his tenure in office, it looks like President Trump is going to get tough on one of the world’s most dangerous and unforgiving terrorist groups.
In this clip, the Center for Security Policy’s Fred Fleitz puts a subtle anti-Trump-policy spin on his analysis for Fox News’ Lou Dobbs by claiming that Obama “did not have a serious policy” during his time in office, and yet, by most insider accounts, the only reason the war in Syria lasted as long as it has is because of Obama’s continued funding for these groups.
Now, it’s been announced that the 11th Marine expeditionary force is joining American forces stationed outside Raqqa, Syria, where they’re expected to bolster efforts to recapture that location.
The leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (who’s allegedly been seen in photos with Senator John McCain of Arizona) has been reported as having fled the city of Mosul, formerly ISIS’ most-populated stronghold. But according to the latest news, ISIS is being swept out of Mosul, and Raqqa may be one of their last fallback positions.
Could this be the end of ISIS once and for all? It’s difficult to say, given the approximate stalemate of the five-year-old conflict in Bashar al-Assad’s embattled nation. But a recent drop in U.S. funds for the “moderate rebels” of the country may have more to do with ISIS’ current losses than any other factor.
Watch as former CIA analyst Fleitz attempts to distract from that view by insisting that the only solution to the Syrian scenario is yet another military buildup — preferably involving NATO — in the Middle East.
