Recently, Donald Trump stated via his Twitter account that the Obama administration had wiretapped him both during the presidential election and following the election. The Obama administration has adamantly denied this, although of course they would never confirm they did it until they had to.
Wiretapping a private citizen because he is a candidate in a presidential election is illegal and would result in criminal charges brought against everyone involved (theoretically this would include former President Obama, although it likely wouldn’t reach that far up).
Since President Trump made the claim over Twitter, both Republicans and Democrats have come out, asking for proof on the wiretapping. As rumors are becoming more and more plausible and evidence gets released little by little Democrats are scrambling to get a handle on the situation. They have come out and stated how they believe such an investigation should proceed and how Republicans should be responding to the situation.
Chuck Schumer is such an individual. He has been openly critical of the Trump administration on a number of different issues, including the latest wiretapping claims. He points towards what he believes to be faults in Republicans and he also discusses what he thinks should be security measures taken. Most of these security recommendations are simply made off base and without proper knowledge.
