South Carolina’s Rep. Trey Gowdy is a pitbull of a lawmaker with a history of coming down hard against those who deserve it. However, when it comes to President Trump coming down hard on special counsel Robert Mueller, Gowdy has a different approach.
Recently, Trump’s lawyer called on the Deputy Attorney General to end the Mueller investigation. Appearing on Fox News, Gowdy warned President Trump that ending the Mueller investigation now would not be a wise decision.
Keep in mind that it is highly unlikely that Gowdy believes Mueller will find any evidence of collusion against Trump. After all, Gowdy is a member of the House Intelligence Committee which recently released a report saying no evidence of collusion exists. Instead, Gowdy is advising the President to avoid shutting down the investigation on the grounds that if he is innocent, it will be better if he is proven innocent rather than shutting down the investigation prematurely and allowing doubts to linger.
This, of course, must be difficult for Trump, who has seen his Presidency shackled by an ongoing investigation that has thus far failed to produce a shred of evidence that Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign. However, investigations without evidence can only carry on for so long, and it would benefit President Trump to see the Mueller investigation through to its conclusion.
