The video captures officers ripping open the back of the smoking rig and dragging people out one by one as the trailer burns around them. Thirty-nine human beings, stuffed like cargo into a metal box by smugglers who clearly valued the payload over the people. The driver and one passenger in the cab bolted from a Border Patrol checkpoint, sparking a pursuit that ended when the trailer ignited.
And here's what drives me absolutely crazy. Every single Democrat who has ever stood at a podium and called for "humane immigration reform" — every activist who has screamed that walls are racist — every NGO that has handed out pamphlets telling people how to cross illegally — they all own a piece of that burning trailer.
This is what happens when you incentivize illegal crossings. You don't get orderly lines at consulates. You get smuggling cartels stuffing human beings into death traps for a few thousand bucks a head. You get fire. You get panic. You get 39 people who are alive today only because Border Patrol officers ran toward flames instead of away from them.
The same Border Patrol, by the way, that the left spent four years trying to defund, defame, and demoralize.
We were told that enforcement was the problem. That if we just opened our arms wide enough, the smuggling would stop on its own. That "no human is illegal." Well, nobody's debating anyone's humanity here. We're debating whether it's a good idea to create a system so broken that 39 people almost burned alive in the back of a truck on an American highway.
The footage doesn't lie. It doesn't editorialize. It doesn't need a CNN chyron to explain what you're looking at. Officers pulling coughing, terrified people from a smoldering trailer — that's your "compassionate" immigration policy in high definition.
Every pro-amnesty politician in Washington should be forced to watch this video on a loop until they can explain exactly how their policies prevent it. They won't, of course. They'll change the subject to "kids in cages" or whatever focus-grouped talking point is trending this week.
